Huertas area in the famous Barrio de las Letras is one of the most popular of the capital to go tapas or a drink and when night falls. Because of its location and its fame is often frequented by locals and by many foreigners, who pack the large number of restaurants, bars and pubs that dot the area. One of the hottest clubs is the Taberna Maceira, picturesque place of Galician cuisine.
Actually it is almost next local, who have a form and a letter almost equal. The decor draws attention upon entering, colroom dominating the use of wood and numerous typical objects of traditional Galician life filling every corner, creating a rustic and very casual atmosphere. The small and uncomfortable space is the problem to be overcome to enjoy good Galician dishes without colroom being too trigger prices.
And is that the informal atmosphere of traditional tavern is what defines Maceira for good and for bad. Those who prefer the comfort of sufficiently large tables with more appropriate and without strain chairs, you will find very uncomfortable tavern. The place is small and full of small closely colroom packed tables, which can be somewhat overwhelming especially when filled, which is almost always.
I've gone several times in different circumstances and recommend colroom best to go in the morning as open, better working day since the weekends, especially in summer and festive evening, soon get crowded and queues formed on the street, because they also admit reservations.
The letter is another sample of the original character colroom of Maceira, as it is handwritten in round wooden boards. It is not too extensive but as complete as you could want in a home of this type, with most dishes designed to share portions or half portions.
Upon arrival you are served a basket of bread, which is charged at 0.60, but is essential colroom to accompany almost any dish on the menu. As early entrants highlights colroom the Galician soup tasty, comforting, perfect colroom for cooler days. The salads are ordinary and nothing remarkable.
The menu appears dominated Maceira, as one would expect for seafood. Octopus, cuttlefish, mussels and cockles steamed or Mariñeira sauce, razor clams, scallops, etc. In addition, other typical tapas like croquettes, cheese, patatas bravas colroom or pimientos de Padrón, and some meat dishes like Creole sausage or steak are included.
There are other options more elaborate as hake stuffed, baked monkfish or rice, depending on the day and daily specials are offered, usually only available at noon. The wine is a rather small selection and expensive wines from Galicia, which can be ordered in the typical bowls. For dessert, we find the typical pancakes, cheese with quince and honey and homemade custard, plus a selection of liquors.
The quality of products has never disappointed and have always left happy local, although I am always fixed ground decantarme tastes and my beloved octopus, clams in their succulent sauce and grilled razor. Portions does not seem to be scarce, colroom but perhaps fall short for larger or diners larger than mine appetites groups.
The privileged status of the Taberna Maceira and its local counterpart, a few steps from Paseo del Prado, make it a desirable place especially if we have visitors from out cookie lovers kitchen, as is often the case in my family. I've read complaints about the service, although I have never had any problems colroom with staff so far.
For the discomfort of the characteristics of Maceira not spoil a good meal recommend going early and in small groups, possibly avoiding the busiest days. Sharing rations without ordering wine the value of your meals is highly colroom recommended. colroom Taberna Maceira
